Annnnnd since I'm so far behind (and am procrastinating on my current cosplay project and my dropped writing project), here's the next batch of links! Also a smidge shorter than usual, as I spent half the month in Austria/otherwise without internet.

1. Oh yeah! Watched How to Train Your Dragon on the airplane, and it was wonderful. (Toothless was adorable, and made me miss having a cat.) Actually, thinking about it, I think I need to watch HtTYD again. And again. Just for the adorable-ness that is Toothless. I DIDN'T KNOW YOU COULD GET ADDICTED TO CUTE
2. Also, I haven't posted fic recs in god knows how long (god or @backupmytweets, anyway), so here's a couple possible repeats. Rec: Variations on Forever, by janeturenne . He was like, "Is this character gay?" *red* I was so flustered and could barely keep from cracking up at the same time. (But hey, I got nicely printed fanart outta the deal, lol.)

27. Hmm. So, random fandom note: why does the genderplay usually get heaped onto the physically slighter characters? That's lazy thinking. :P On #inceptionkinkmeme, there are a bazillion girl!Arthur prompts, about equal girl!Eames & boy!Ariadne, and 1 each Saito & Yusef. No Cobb. Y.
    
    • In SGA fandom, it's usually Sheppard, though I've seen a bunch with academia-politics for McKay and Jackson, too.
    • Oh god. Was trying to think of other fandoms with genderbending and now want Naruto/Inception xover SOMEHOW. Dream ninjas? SexynoJutsu? IDEK

Holy unliving fuck Inception would work /so well/ with Naruto when you consider the use of dream/genjutsu realms and the visually represented subconscious in Naruto... imagine going into Naruto's head to steal some info and encountering the Kyuubi. Which would eat your face.

And god, if he was the one doing the dream infiltration, the kyuubi wouldn't act like another Mal? Except less subtle, lol. I think I had originally been stuck on the genderbending swap, but yeah. This would be so cool. (Also, there's Uchiha and the dream torture that goes on forever -- the time dialation would fit with Inception.) But we would probably need to choose between modern world or Naruto world for setting, which would make it more of a fusion...

Plot Bunny!!!

Idea! Inception verse, using massive shared dream experience like Yusuf introduced. But more combined with the implied? Fanon? idea of military development. Outside group experimenting with dreams, militarization, and (secretly) evolving technique for a self-developed militarization of the mind (tails). So this group of people (originally operatives, but as they kept running through people, they started taking volunteers. Then people who wouldn't be missed.) has all these people under, and in massive dream webs, for each of the hidden villages. So as everyone is getting trained as dream ninjas, the ppl in charge know it's a dream, but treat it like it's not because a) that's their job and b) it's kinda impossible to get out on their own. Orochimaru might have been recruited by the division that handles keeping up conflict and torture to keep the military sharp.

Stuff happens. Projects and departments shift, which is how you end up with the Akatsuki and shit. People die -- and either are sent out to the real world, or disposed of.

And then--

Project gets cancelled. All the subjects are pulled from their years of dreamtime and abandoned. (A lot of the unimportant NPCs are just that, figments, so it's a lot of people, but not thousands or something.) The remaining heads from dreams, assuming they haven't gone crazy or forgotten or killed themselves, either) are stuck with convincing everyone that this is the real world, you might actually remember it unless you were here from before they streamlined the conditioning/brainwashing process. Everyone's dreamself remains talented as before.

And then we start the fic, with Naruto et al trying their hand at dream recon. Or maybe the remix, where there are rumors about that recent discovery of cult members discovered in x location, it looks like they had been drugged and sedentary for quite some time, but if you're in the know, looks like it was some top secret dream experiment, what did they do? And have inceptionverse NPCs hired and failing at infiltrating the culters minds. So Inception team is called in. Saito might want some of them as pet goons.

(Certain skills may translate into being able to conciously rip the dreamscape control from the architect, forging, etc.)
